Waimea Falls 03/17/2016

This is the first time I've been to see the Waimea Falls.  Thanks to Celia for finding the 1/2 off day and inviting me to come along. It was a fun shoot and I learned a lot from the other photogs about shooting 'macro' with my zoom lens and also taking pics with the iphone too!  We started with breakfast at Denny's in Kaneohe and after the shoot we had lunch at Kix BBQ in Hauula.  It was a day of firsts for me.

I've learned from other photos to always look at the other direction. This the opposite view from the falls. The sky was so beautiful.

Super Blood Wolf Moon -- 01/20/2019

It's been a while since I posted anything.  I haven't had enough of a collection to post.  Last night, with the lunar eclipse, I finally have something to post.
The news said the eclipse would start at 18 degrees above the horizon, but I was too far from East shores so I didn't think I'd see anything.  When I looked out just after dinner, I saw the first sliver of the eclipse!

As the moon got higher, it was not really red, so I was at first disappointed, although the moon was pretty big.

Waiting for a while more, I could see the color change to a kind of grey red.  It was quite amazing.  What's even more amazing, there was hardly any cloud in the sky!!

I read an article on how to take the lunar eclipse and so I set up my tripod with my 70-200mm lens and a shutter release.  I manually focused and just started clicking. It was so awesome there was no cloud covering.

I kept trying to find the peak of the red moon and kept shooting.  I manually set my iphone timer for every 5 minutes then it was 2 minutes to take a shot because the moon moving across my view quite fast.  I had the idea of doing an overlap of all the shots I took.  I wasn't sure what I'd get but I think the effects came out pretty cool!   Here's when it was getting out of the peak.

As it got out of earth's shadow, it got pretty bright.  I tried changing my shutter speed a few times to get some details.  It was good I had the manual shutter release. 

Then finally when the moon appeared out of earth's shadow and the eclipse was over.  

I merged with what I think was the peak with the last shot I took of the night.  I felt so blessed I was able to witness this event.  I shall never forget this experience.

Pow Wow 2018 (Take 2) -- 4/28/2018

It took several weeks to meet again due to the rain we got.  Finally the weather was nice and we could continue the other areas of the Pow Wow art in Kakaako.  It was a super hot day so we ended up enjoying a smoothie at Down to Earth. A great end to a great day of shooting.  

POW WOW 2018 - 02/25/2018

This year's Pow Wow had more color and more visitors, especially those from Japan, China and Korea.  It is always cool to walk around to check all of the art work out. Some from previous year is still around but there were some really fun and recognizable ones this year.

45th Honolulu Marathon -- 12/10/2017

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and it's that most wonderful time of the year! At least, for marathoners. I go every year to support my friend to see him finish. After meeting him, I'd go around to snap e few shots. Every year, the Japanese tour groups always have a booth for their runners. It is roped off and has large decorations like this one. Santa has arrived under Diamond Head.

There's a jumbo tron.  Last year there was a 1/2 hour delay, this year, it is broadcasting live.

There is only two smell that permeates the entire park.. the Satohap pain relief spray, and malasadas!!

They make it fresh there right in the park!

Everyone enjoyed the malasadas.

Due to security reasons, I can't get more than some 30 feet away so I can't even see my friend cross the finish line!  It's the sign of the times I suppose.
