The Hawaii Photographic Society had a photo outing at the Zoo to check out the new home for the elephants. We met at 9am and the animals were really lively, probably either just having had breakfast or was creating noise so they can be fed. We went in several groups to see all the exhibits and met up around 11:30am. After lunch a few of us decided to go back to the zoo to check them out once more. It was a great day at the zoo. I hope to go back again soon..
I tried using my Lumix to see how much it could zoom and believe it or not this was shot w/ the Lumix.. nice!
My first post on Blogger was from the zoo using my Canon Rebel and the 28-135mm lens and I knew then I wanted the 70-200mm to take shots of the different primates and birds.. The lens did not disappoint.. I don't think I've seen the Gibbon w/ his bulging neck.
This shot makes me think whether the monkey was in the cage or is man...
It was drizzling a little earlier and I found him under some covering.
I then checked out the reptile exhibits. I usually don't like the slimy and slithery animals here, but I found this frog's expression fascinating.
I was never able to get a closeup of the elephant in their former habitat...now, their new home is much larger and I can finally get a good shot. I can even see their skin up close..
After lunch, we went back and checked out the Avian cage..
I also saw this family of ducks w/ a lone yellow duckling amongst them.
The Hyena was taking a 'power nap' but woke up to take a look around at the ruckus before going back to sleep again.
I don't think I've ever seen the lioness before at the zoo..she was wide awake..
It is amazing how nice their fur is.. I could stay there and watch all day..
I liked their cute and furry coat so much, he is now my Facebook profile photo.. :-)

Nice crisp shots! I like your perspective of the primate and the man.
Great animal shots! Your saturation is so nice, colors are so rich and looks so lifelike. Are you doing something different? Very nice post!
Ooooh soooo nice your pikchas!!! Rusti under the barrel is priceless!Looking at your photos makes me want to go back again. It's been awhile.
Terrific close ups - wow I can see the pores of the elephant. I can't see the cage of the primate and the bird - that takes talent to deal with such small openings. Hee hee I can only do that with the tiger's fence. Even Rusti's darling picture does not show the reflection of the glass enclosure. Great job!!!
